Are Tastics energy effecient?

Yes. Tastics provide instant radiant heat. There is no warm up period necessary as the radiant heat feels warm as soon as it is turned on. Other forms of heat such as radiators and under-floor heating are far less efficient. These systems heat the air and the air then heats the people in the room. As a result other systems are usually switched on and wasting energy for many hours each day to ensure that the bathroom is warm for the few minutes that you may be in it. With the Tastic you simply turn it on and benefit from the heat straight away. You turn it off when you dont 'need it and no more energy is used.

Who can install a Tastic?

A Tastic must be fitted by a qualified electrician. The electrician can ensure that the unit is installed in the appropriate zone in the bathroom.

How effective is the fan?

The Tastic fan is a 40 watt inline fan. This extracts up to 55 litres of air per second, considerably more than most typical 15 watt bathroom fans. Our fan can also be located between the Tastic and the vent outlet on the outside of the house. This not only improves performance but also minimises the motor noise heard in the bathroom.

With such great heat are the running costs high?

Even with all 4 heat lamps on a 275 watt Tastic uses less than 3 cents of electricity every 10 minutes.

What happens if I forget to turn it off?

All smart switch Tastics have a built in function that automatically switches the unit off after 40 minutes. The unit cannot be accidentally left on for very long.

What guarantee comes with the Tastic?

The heat lamps and inline fan are guaranteed for 2 years, the remainder of the unit (excluding the light bulb) is guaranteed for 5 years.

Where is the best place to fit the Tastic in the room?

The best of the heat from the Tastic will be felt directly underneath the unit. Therefore it should ideally be placed directly above the location where spend most of your time. Provided that wiring zones allow it I usually recommend that the Tastic be fitted in the ceiling above the area in front of the sink.

Can the Tastic be installed above the bath or shower

No, to comply with wiring regulations the Tastic should not be installed above a shower or bath or within 600mm of being directly above a shower or bath.

Will the Tastic fit between the joists?

The cut out size for the Tastic is 330mm x 330mm. Most ceiling joists are at 400mm intervals.

skytube

Is it possible to install a Skytube in the ground floor of a 2 storey house?

Yes, provided that the tube can be installed directly above the location where it is needed.

Which system provides the most light?

Rigid Skytubes deliver more light to the room where it is needed than flexible units. Even our 240mm rigid System provides much more light than larger flexible Skylights.

Is it possible to bend the rigid Skytubes to avoid obstructions in the attic?

Yes, variable angle adapters are available. These can adjust to provide any angle up to 45 degrees.

Is it necessary to install the Skytube on the South side of the roof?

No. Skytubes will work regardless of what direction the roof faces. On sunny days south facing units will deliver some additional light however in typical cloudy conditions most of the light comes from the clouds directly overhead.

Can the Skytube be angled so that the flashing is on the back of the house?

This can be done with the use of angle adapters. However, to maximise the daylight entering the room where it is need, we generally recommend that the roof flashing be located directly above the ceiling lens.

Do Skytubes provide ventilation?

Yes each unit comes with trickle ventilation which can be adjusted as required. Windowless bathrooms and toilet areas will still need an extractor fan. We can also supply these. See the vent air in our IXL Tastic section.

Can a Skytube be used in a wall?

No.

Will Skytubes be prone to condensation?

Provided that the Skytube is wrapped with insulation and the room in question has sufficient ventilation condensation should not be a problem.

Is it necessary to clean the Skytube?

The dome on the roof is curved so rain will generally minimise any build up of grime. The lens at ceiling level can also be removed to facilitate cleaning of the inside of the tube which can be done with a feather duster.  When installing the Skytube it is important to ensure that no light from the tube is showing in the attic. Any light leaks should be covered up to eliminate the possibility of insects flying into the Skytube..

Can one Skytube on the roof be used to provide light to 2 different rooms?

No.

Can Skytubes be used on a flat roof?

Yes, we have Skytube flashing for flat roofs. This can be used provided that a watertight  upstand is built under the flashing.
